In 2019, Karla was commissioned by Grammy-nominated artist Musiq Soulchild to create custom footwear pieces incorporating distressed denim and hand-threaded detailing.

The works were worn by the artist at the BET Awards and later at the Soul Train Awards, bridging textile craft, fashion culture and international music platforms. The commission demonstrated the adaptability of Karla’s material approach beyond gallery environments and into global performance contexts.

This collaboration represented a key moment in expanding the visibility of her practice internationally.
