GROWTH
Growth came from a period when I realised that if I wanted my life to change, I had to start with myself.
I needed to look inward, be honest about the things that were holding me back, remove distractions and become more intentional about where I was putting my energy.
Unlike many of my other mannequin sculptures, she isn't standing. She lies on her back in a moment of stillness and surrender.
She also has no eyes.
I made that choice because at that point in my journey, I was learning that I couldn't keep looking outside of myself for the answers. I had to turn inward, listen to myself and begin finding them within.
That was important to me because growth doesn't always look like constantly doing, achieving or moving forward. Sometimes the biggest changes are happening quietly, beneath the surface, where nobody else can see them.
As that inner growth begins to take place, flowers start to blossom across the outside of her body. They represent what happens when the work we're doing internally slowly begins to show itself externally.
Just like nature, we don't see everything that's happening before something blooms. The roots form first. Growth happens beneath the soil. And only then do we see the flower.
Growth reminds me that we don't always have to see progress to know that something within us is changing. Eventually, what we nurture on the inside begins to blossom on the outside.
And the journey isn't finished.
I'm still growing.
