AMETHYST

Created in the lead-up to the release of Black Panther, this work emerged during a period of heightened creative and spiritual energy. The cultural shift was palpable empowering, expansive, and deeply affirming. In response, Cornwall envisioned a spiritual warrior figure she could personally identify with: a sovereign, metaphysical protector named Amethyst.

The amethyst stone, predominantly sourced from Zambia is traditionally associated with protection, purification and higher consciousness. These properties form the foundation of the Avatar’s power.

As a spiritual being, Amethyst operates through heightened perception. The amethyst stone embedded at his chest functions as an energetic core absorbing, transmuting and neutralising toxic vibrations. Through his third eye, he symbolically detects imbalance within the body and restores energetic harmony.

He protects against addiction, stress and destructive frequencies. Yet like all powerful forces, his energy is dual capable of both healing and disruption. The same intensity that restores balance can destabilise opposing forces.

The work embodies protection, spiritual authority and the reclamation of inner power.

Notably, the piece contains glow-in-the-dark elements, revealing an alternate presence in low light reinforcing the idea that spiritual power is most visible in darkness.
